Gotta say we are damn proud of these dudes right here. That link below is to a fantastic full length record from Prison Garde & Kevin Eames. Bricks is packed with gritty warehouse damage, seething 4/4 dance music built for 3am dancefloors. Garde & Eames have been working on this album for much of the second half of 2011, the result of some late night sessions with some analog toys. A few of these tunes popped up on their Futureproofing mix for Andrew Ryce a couple months back, most notably the unrelenting “Hardchop” & the astral groove of “Ghostjackin”. Now we finally have the whole batch to enjoy, plus a lush pdf of pics to accompany said heat…
Bricks is a rudimentary dance experience – drawing from the stripped down ethos of producers like Joy O & Boddika, G&E lean hard on rigorous grids of classic drum machines patterns (707, 808 etc), allowing disolved chords & sparse basslines to effortlessly guide the journey. G&E are both vocal fans of analog gear & their penchant for filter fuckery, detuning & envelope twerks gives Bricks a loose feel that is all too often vacant from so much current dance music from over the pond.
Highlights include the aforementioned “Hardchop”, as well, “Heavyset”, a tune that pits a rubbery mid-range wasteland against a forest of kicks & hats. Eliot Lipp laces “Murdergame” for a killer remix also.
These two cats will be lacing the Waldorf with these sounds plus so much more this Saturday in Vancouver at our 2 Year Anniversary party alongside Kingdom, Monolithium, Max Ulis, Rhythmicon & Calamalka. Tickets only $12.
