LuckyMe has had an amazing 2011. Few labels can boast the kind of dancefloor legitimacy that these Glaswegians wield so casually. Jacques Greene’s Another Girl, Lunice’s Stacker Upper EP, Machinedrum’s Alarma 12″, man, they just kept the heat rolling out all year. But the one that we were reeeeally holding our breath for is finally here… Ango’s Another City Now.
ANGO – ANOTHER CITY NOW by LuckyMe Music Art Parties
Up to now, Andrew Gordon MacPherson has kinda been the unsung Montrealer quietly slaying. He’s toured the globe this year with Jacques Greene, acting as a second pair of hands for the most elaborate live PA dance party we’ve seen in a minute. Plus he’s 1/3 of Nouveau Palais, the group he formed late last year with Prison Garde & Lunice. His debut, Another City Now, is a startling fusion of modern synthetic music. Sourcing from funk, r&b, pop and UK dance styles, MacPherson has wound sultry chords & melancholy melodies around taught dancefloor rhythms & sweet falsetto crooning. The result is a release that sounds like where pop music in 2012 should be headed – a seamless blend of post-modernity, comfortably grounded by classic pop signifiers. We proud of the dude. Show him some love. He sounds like he needs it…
